I'm surprised Zoinkity hasn't posted this, so I'll post this great piece of N64-related news.
Sin and Punishment (mainly known by it's Japanese title of Tsumi to Batsu) now has an unofficial fan translation (by Zoinkity), so you can play it on your N64 in English (you need a backup device to play it, of course, such as the Everdrive 64).
The game, which was voted the best "run 'n' gun" shooter ever by Retro Gamer magazine (in issue 44), was an N64 exclusive that was never released outside of Japan in the N64 years, though later it was made available (in English) for the VC downloads on the Wii. But now you can play it on the N64 in English, which is fantastic news. For details see;

BTW, I had a bit of trouble applying the patch - neither the version of the game rom I already had, nor the next three I downloaded, would accept the patch, it was the fourth download (all from different sites, and none of the downloads were corrupt) that worked, but it's well worth the little bit of trouble it took to get the patch working.
NB. You can play this on an N64 emulator too, but there is already an emulator only translation of the game at;

I've not tried this myself (I don't tend to use N64 emulators, as they are less than perfect at the moment), so I don't know how this compares to the new translation. But to play S&P in English on a real N64 (which is how true N64 fans like to play things) was until now impossible, but thanks to Zoinkity's hard work we can follow the story (and game options!) in one of the N64's best games. |

Ahh Tsumi to Batsu - Hoshi no Keishousha. I LOVE this game but big language barrier.. cheers Zoinkity and you Kerr for spreading word !!
Insane shooter.. always wonder why she sounds like a man though

Hey! I'll finally manage to find out what the options were that I've been messing with for all these years without actually seeing any changes! hehehe

Glad you like it! I'm looking for translators (and not the google kind) for some other projects as well.
For anyone interested, it's a bit different from the VC version. The VC version didn't have the advantage of changing tile sizes (they're pure image replacements, which I've extracted too for giggles), so they were also limitted to the boring, weird, 8x8 font.
I tried to use fonts for each that closely resembled the fonts used for the same purpose in the japanese. So, the title menu uses those monster 16x8 guys (diminished anywhere from 14x8 to 10x8 depending on the situation), and the subtitles are not styled so they're somewhat legible.
Good to hear it actually works on console, since I'm sort of in the odd position of not being able to test it right now ;*) _________________ (\_/) Beware

I tried the XDelta patch first on my rom, but it didn't work, so I tried the other patch, which also didn't work. On every subsequent rom download, I tried the IPS (or whatever it was) patch, not the XDelta. |

BTW, I always thought "Airan" was spelled "Irene". I don't know if you found that somewhere else or just romanized the katana/hiragana. |

Airan was the official romanization. The japanese never, ever remove websites ;*) However, you're not wrong; oftentimes names like these are themselves borrowed from other languages, so it isn't necessarily incorrect to relocalize them. Combine that with vowel changes within a language and you get hundreds of variations of the same name. _________________ (\_/) Beware
