Hey guys,

I'm very thrilled to have time to deal with Goldeneye and the Editor again, now that I've got time. However, probably due to the fact that I now have a Windows 7 computer, the visual editor just won't work.

I've checked the FAQ, asked Mr Google and done such things to try to get to the bottom of this. I enabled compatibility mode for XP SP3 and used Run as Admin. Despite this fact, the visual mode only implodes.

I hope a charitable soul will be able to guide me into a future of maniacal level edition.

I also hope I am not posting this in the wrong spot...

Surprised

Does it load, and crash when you click, or does it crash as soon as it loads? I would recommend also getting the beta and run that.

It can be a DirectX 9.0c problem, is that installed properly? Sometimes dlls in the editor folder may need to be renamed or not that involve directx.

The name for DX (Direct X) was a problem for me. I had similar problem I did all you said above. For me it crashed when I touched a preset. I look and I just renamed the DX file and it worked.

I uninstalled and tried everything including what you said from scratch and got a fancy dx9 dll from somewhere, and then it worked

Thank you!

Is there a tutorial related to sentry guns? It seems that they want to point in random directions or act unexpectedly blind

Man, that reminds me, sentry guns were the bane of my existance, back in the day...

You have to choose it's target. Right click on it. Your best bet is copy or make one if rares sentries, paste it into your level, then just set target. That way speeds and turning radius match expectations. Give that a shot.

That worked well. Once more, thank you!
As I continue to mess around with setups, I'm probably going to keep having new questions!

Actually most things are working fine and I'm well on my way to getting use to how it works.

But there's something that really bothers me. Almost always when I make a modification to the 21990, the game will refuse to run or it'll hang during the intro bits of the level start. Am I doing something wrong, perhaps? I mostly wanted to make minor edits to the weapons.

A question about emulators. I take it I'm meant to use project 64, but - what video plugin should I use?

On another note, my first setup is more or less Dam on the Tank.

Glad it is going mostly well!

Can you explain exactly what changing in 21990? Shouldn't be doing that. So I can try and recreate it.

I'll go and retry, so I can make sure I write down every step.

You should be able to use just about any N64 emulator you like, but some of them require that you update the game settings in order for it to run properly. There should be more information about that on the GoldenEye Vault website, under the FAQs section.

Oh, and I remember having some weird issues with modified Dam setups crashing at the level start. Not sure if it was from the intro camera stuff or what it was. Maybe SubDrag has a better memory on that.

In early versions of the editor, the Dam level could not be opened, and then resaved, or it would crash due to something in the intro. That said, the problem seemed to disappear one day, so not sure if I accidentally fixed it, or what.

Thank you guys as usual, the dam and emulator issues are no more.

But there's still something extremely bizarre going on with the 21990 modification.

No matter what I did I kept crashing. So I decided I'd do the simplest modification possible. I removed the Debug leftovers and then enabled all levels and all cheats.

The new emulator doesn't crash anymore, but starts to lag insanely after the Goldeneye screen when 21990 changes are applied.

In this case, only the first 9 or so of the cheats will be unlocked. Yes, you've got that right. Unlocking all cheats will only unlock some of the cheats and cause the game to become a laggy mess.

I'm stumped

Did you adjust roms emulator settings via faq? Also clear your save then unlock cheats as it only works if no save.

Not all cheats can be unlocked from bitflags. A few will read completion times for stages and unlock based on that. That's also the condition for unlocking Egypt as a multiplayer, though you can get around that.
