I have been thinking of this for a while now. How many of you would be interested in me making levels with no enemies just Drone Guns?
The purpose is basically like a challange and I been playing alot of P.N.03 (Product Number 03) which released the Idea. Let me know if any of you are remotely interested.

Would add a new kind of challenge though it would be quite hard and somewhat boring to a certain extent. You would have to mix things up once in a while but still possible to make a "Good" drone like level if you put time into it and some thought of some kind of strategy as well.
I can see it happening if you put a lot of work into it. But there is a chance that a level can lag if to many drones are in one map. So you need to keep an eye out on that as well.
In other words, I like the idea and would totally give it a try if it is pulled off right. _________________ There totally nothing to read here. |

It's only when a lot of drones are firing that things get dicey.
...I take that back. It's when you're within firing distance because it's doing a whole kaboodles worth of expensive math. _________________ (\_/) Beware

Im not sure what processing power difference there is between a Guard and a Drone Gun.
If anything, the drone gun has less pollys and less AI (Cant move, so doesnt look for paths) and should therefor be less laggy.
Its a good idea, I guess it could be like breaking into a high security technology and weapons plant (Cyberdyne?)
You are making the level too and not just re-using a GE/PD level?
The other scenario would be a training sim like the Carrington one, except a full level and not just a black box room. (although I could see some sort of holographic effect for a futuristic effect
you could even animate the walls by having a semi-transparent wall and make a new TV screen with a flicker effect scaled to fit behind the wall)

I have been reading on making maps from scratch but have not tried or gotten any of the programs. Of course drone guns are limited in most cases but it wont be just that. I would set traps and other bombs along the way, if to close to laser looking mine then explode. _________________ www.youtube.com/gamerrey23 |

I would also agree that you should work in some other booby traps, laser grids, puzzles, etc. Have some mastermind behind it all, talking to you over a speaker. His words could be tormenting, but also include subtle hints for certain areas. The end would result in his capture or death. That would make it more exciting and dramatic for the player. _________________

Drone guns use different logic than actors do. Part of the "drones in MP" patch was to fix the logic so they can choose a single target. They are also processed in the object stack, not the actor stack, so they're run more often than actual AI. It's remarkably different.
It's a bit slower, but unless you really go over-the-top all should be well. Having a large number trained on you at any given time would probably be rather lethal anyway. _________________ (\_/) Beware

This actually seems like a really good idea for one of my future levels! (The plan is that Alfredo has to sneak into the well-guarded office of some kind of dubious technology corporation, in order to steal a valuable item from them. The building would be filled with traps and drones, and almost no guards.)
But ehhh, two questions:
-Is it OK for me to utilize this great idea, or is there someone who'd rather use it himself? I don't want to come off as a thief or something
AND
-Has anyone already experimented with this concept before? Because I'm really concerned it might slow down the level a lot, or mess up the texture, etc. |

Something more serious now actually, is it true that only one type of drone gun can be used in every level? Like, a ceiling mounted one works, but the free standing version doesn't in some stages, en vice versa?
Or is there a way to make both of them work? |

They should all work (I would thin but never tried), but copy from existing levels. The editor default insert might not work. |

Uh..I probably sound very dumb right now, but how do I actually copy such an object from one file to another? Opening two setup files at the same time and then copy-paste is obviously not going to work... |

You can use prefabs, by creating/inserting, or you can copy, close visual editor, open next project, and paste. |
