I'm sure that it has been done before, but has anyone ever attempted to merge "split" levels together? For example, Depot and Train/Archives and Streets.
New maps could potentially be created from half of both maps merged - if that makes sense! |

Zoinkity and I tried to merge Chicago and G5 from PD into GE. But we found out there's a limit of A9? rooms and it exceeded that. The tougher part about GE is the level scales are different, so its much harder (certainly not impossible or all that hard really, just need to scale the vertices). In PD they're all 1.0 so it can be done. Shame, that was such a cool project. |

Ahhhh....almost forgot about the dam/frigate concept:
As I recall I had some serious visibility issues as there were just way too many rooms loaded at one time. If you were bond and rotated in a circle, it would take a few seconds for all the rooms in the ship to reload (and that screenshot didn't even have the ship's interior rooms loaded if I remember correctly).
I suppose it might be something worth taking another look at. The only feasible solution I can think of is to combine rooms (basically the exact opposite of splitting rooms for hammer). It would require the merging of data between the .bin files. I had asked wreck about this a few months ago re: fixing the problems in surface and I know he did manage to successfully combine 2 rooms.
The other problem of course was scale. |

As for the train/depot project, I did very nearly finish that one. I did run into some portaling issues at the end and eventually gave up. Those are fixible, but the main problem here is framerates - framerates were HORRENDOUS.
A simplified version of this may be much more feasible, basically my old-school dept backzone (gameshark creation) with an expanded train section. |

Was there such a project that was made and finished? I remember a thread a few months ago, maybe last year. Frigate was photoshopped into Dam. But the user had memory issues. Was that the thing that didn't get released? |
lol, that wasn't photoshopped. That was an actual in-game screenshot. |

haha I can't even keep track of my own hacking projects.
I have so many ongoing projects I don't even know where to start. I suck at finishing things - as soon as I get bored with a project I start another one. I have so many that I lack the motivation to pick one and finish it - kind of that overwhelming feeling. |
