Great, thanks for the info on textures, I have a question but will ask in the other thread.
Ok, So if the textures are weird because of emulation then just leve them, don't make them bigger to get rid of the wierdness otherwise they will be giant and blurry things up close.
You could of cource set the graphics plugin to do some tri-linear filtering
About the bluryness of games, if they had engines like GE/PD/BK and the N64 had a bigger cache they would look a lot better.
Is it not down to the fact they are rendered at such a low resolution (pilotwings etc, Randorn remember the screen caps you posted) that the N64 has to then smudge them to take away jaggies.

n64 can do trilinear mip-map interpolation (mip maps which are trilinear filtered and transitions between one and other can be smoothed out instead of being sudden). The muddyness is probably a mix of the low resolution, dithered 16bit display, the low res textures + filtering, and antialiasing of edges. Some games fare better than others in this so I guess there are differences between microcodes but also on how artists and graphics engineers/programmers were able to manage it.
All in all, I like n64's graphics, even with all it's "imperfections". In good hands the results are very pleasing, even if "lo-fi".
about stretching textures out to couter aliasing/moiree-patterning... you may be able to counter it on a PC by forcing stuff if you know how, but on the n64 things are a bit more fixed, you see. Even if the N64 does AA, it won't do quite enough of it to prevent moiree in a level like this unless the textures are stretched out a bit more.
When I get arround loading this in my n64 I'll try to show some example shots. I predict there will be a lot of moiree |

Had a chance to try this out, and I'm very impressed. Judging by the screenshots, I thought the level was going to be fairly small. I didn't realize how much more there was to it, never mind that you could actually climb all the way up to the top of the castle. Really nice stuff, Aries. I've added this to the "For Your Eyes Only" forum for better preservation. _________________

With this computer of mine, I don't think I'll be able to make reasonable quality video. It will have way too much framedropping. |

EternallyAries, I'm afraid you are not interpreting the pictures well.
There's not a fog problem, there's an aliasing problem.
Before trying I thought there would be massive moire patterning, kind of like what you can see in the pictures you posted, but harder.
Look at the brick wall pictures here to see what I mean http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliasing
The problem is inherent to the textures you have used, I'm afraid.
They have very sharp detail and it's all very tightly packed; that is, every pixel contains very significative data and the pattern is repeated many times in a small "physical" area.
It might be solved with further hacking of the game's texture formats or their settings/arguments when applied to geometry, but that'd require changes in the editor and it's not guaranteed that this would be the solution.
EDIT: Adding an AR screenshot (tha is, a dump of the framebuffer)
